Panther Nation has gone all out for football, volleyball, and soccer games this fall. Basketball, baseball, softball and track over the winter and now spring. Whether it is the time rolling down the clock in the first round of the OHSAA playoffs or an NLL championship record breaking win, the Whitmer student section is rocking. All of our wins and losses are done together. At the buzzer during the OHSAA basketball finals, the bleachers sent all their love to their panthers.
Here in Northwest Ohio student sections are a big deal for high school due to BCSN having a Student Section of the Week belt and Student Section of the Season. Whitmer holds our own each year winning in September and have even won the Student Section of the Season as recently as 2021. Senior student section leaders, Panther Commanders, have a lot to do with organizing and prepping for the Friday night frenzies. These spirit warriors are chosen every year to lead the quest for a repeat of that glory.
“We wanted to join Panther Nation to become school spirit leaders and to have fun our senior year,” senior Panther Commander Sydney Borer shares.
The desire to support Whitmer student athletes is certainly taken up a notch when the local sports news stations create weekly student sections pitting rivals back and forth in the stands and on the field or court. This spirit is also strong during the good and the bad times. Our students and staff coming together has helped raise money, hold each other up after traumatizing events, or just embrace after a season ending loss.
“I like to be around kids plus I coach, so just wanting kids to have fun at a sporting event. It was great to see students making memories and it showed how resilient we are as a family and student body no matter what happens to us we’re family and can bounce back from anything,” Panther Nation Advisor
Sean Peters reflects.
The power the student section has on the energy and outcome of a competition means so much to Whitmer sports teams. This is the time of year to express that interested in joining Panther Nation and leading as a Panther Commander.
